Sunday afternoon, thirty-seven degrees, spent this morning looking for where the running question will be centered, everything is dirty. Winter, take-off! But, I’m feeling summer, listening to the latest album release from Brian Wilson. And in four weeks, we will be immersed in one great weekend, a weekend of fun, excitement, friends, memories of those who have been there to share this experience, and the making of future memories. And all of you are the ones that make it possible. Enjoy it for what it is.
Trivia 40; Here’s Looking at You, Kid! Can you get any cooler than Bogart, named both the number one movie legend of all time and ranked as the greatest male star. He took it all. This contest is the best there is with the best players to ever play any type of Trivia contest. When movie quotes are thrown around, you have to include a Bogie quote, because of the way he said it, his verbal swagger, ‘when you’re slapped, you’ll take it, and like it.’ When replying to ‘what nationality are you?’, his response, ‘a drunkard.’ He was the greatest, just like this contest. Another year, here’s looking at you, kid.
The contest is nearly done, so much fun. Last night we worked on the music snippets, an entire evening, listening to songs, identifying stuff from the seat of our pants, in one note. It’s always the best night of Trivia work each year. The basement, again, is a mess, stuff all over the table, yes the same table for thirty-one years, and I noticed, stuff on the floor. I have to make room for the mouse, there is so much stuff piled up. John and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
The Trivia Kickoff movie will be shown Friday and Saturday April 3 and 4. There will be midnight shows both nights and a 10:30 showing on Saturday morning. The shows will be on the Rogers Mega-Screen at the Rogers Cinema on Church Street in Stevens Point. Admission is still $3:00 at the door. The movie will be announced when it opens on the screen. It is rated all ages and ,I hope, will truly be an experience. The Trivia Kickoff Movie, don’t miss seeing this movie on the big screen. See you there…
STV will be broadcasting the contest again. As far as people in other communities, we haven’t the final lineup of where they will be broadcasting. So, a big salute to STV and a great staff this year.
As in the past, I have been working with the Portage County AODA. This is a good idea and most of you should know all these things, just a reminder.
GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS DURING TRIVIA WEEK-END
IF HOSTING A PARTY….
EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO BE SAFE— Children, Youth, Teens, Students, Adults
· Set ground rules with own children and let parents of other children coming know what they are. ( a sheet of written rules and consequences helps all remember.)
· Understand local and state laws and consequences about curfew, and use of alcohol and other drugs by underage youth.
· Have plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages available.
· Ask parents of students coming to your home to help with food and supervision.
· Arrange for one or more responsible adults to be awake and aware at all times.
DURING THE PARTY:
· Avoid easy access to alcohol for anyone under 21 years of age
· Notify any parent whose child arrives under the influence of alcohol or any other drug to come and pick them up. If parents are not available call the police.
· IF a teen arrives at the party with alcohol or other drugs, confiscate, and call parents or police for assistance.
If YOUR TEEN IS ATTENDING A PARTY:
Youth need boundaries and clear expectations with consequences. Although they may hassle you about them, the option of attending a party with boundaries or not attending any party will help them make the right choice.

Each question in the contest might run for two songs, except singing questions which run for three songs, and the final question which will run for one song. Each team is limited to one call per question. Each question is worth 2000 points divided by three plus the number of teams answering it correctly, rounded up to the next value divisible by 5, maximum of 500 points per team per question. Just before the top 5 or 10 teams are read at the end of the newscast, we will announce the point values of the previous hour's questions. Of course there will still be the two running questions. We ask that teams do not collaborate with other teams and that the contest be treated as what it is, a game. Scores will be kept up to date about every two hours on the internet at the trivia web site, www.90fmtrivia.org and every four hours on cable access television. After the contest begins, we will give out the Trivia Complaint line phone number. It is to be used for legitimate complaints concerning the validity of an answer. If your score does not match ours, ours is right. Please feel free to tape record and playback any part of the contest, in fact, you should use tape recorders because we will not repeat questions on the complaint line. However, no part of the contest may be broadcast or reproduced without the permission of 90FM and the OZ, including the pictures in the New Trivia Times. This includes reprinting of the questions for resale.
Again, the New Trivia Times team really kicked it in the butt this year. Thanks to Jason Splinter, Chris Wiza, Mary Stroik and Wayne Semmerling. And thanks to the many businesses in the area who have stuck by us, even in this down turn time in the economy.
I’m ready, John’s ready. We are pumped. We are ready for it all to hit, the lines at the movie, the lines at registration, the start of the contest, “Born to Be Wild”, the sweat pouring from my head at the start of the contest, the first question, the phones going nuts, the operators waiting for you to call, the excitement that can’t be matched, this little Stevens Point gathers around the radio devouring the most intense weekend of the year, you don’t need no stinking badges, you just need to play Trivia, Fast Eddie………
